FAQ
Do you take insurance?
If you have Medicaid, and are considering Birth Center care, itโs important to check your plan options early in pregnancy๐ค
BSD works with select Medicaid plans, and coverage can depend on your specific plan and timing.
We recommend reviewing your plan choices as early as possible and confirming your benefits directly with your insurance provider.
Feel free to reach out to usโweโre happy to help guide you through the process.
I'm not pregnant, can I still come to you for care?
Yes!
Midwives are trained for well-woman care. Midwives can act as your primary care provider if you are a generally healthy person. They can prescribe medications, and order and interpret labs and ultrasounds.
Do you have privileges at a hospital?
Yes!
Our midwives have privileges at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY, Nyack Hospital in Nyack, NY, and Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, NJ. Most deliveries will be at the Birth Center, however, if complications arise, urgent or nonurgent, we will be able to provide care at one of these hospitals.
Do you have a consulting physician?
Yes!
We work very closely with Dr. Victor Rosenberg, MD, MFM and Dr. Craig Wiener, MD, FACOG, who are available to consult should the need arise. We also have an established relationship with Westchester Medical Centerโs perinatal department, and coordinate referrals for more complex maternity or gynecological care.
What are pain relief options?
We offer several pain relief options including hydrotherapy and nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas). We encourage preparation through childbirth education, and support from your spouse, family, doula, and of course your midwife and birth assistant will be there to support you as well.
What does BSD stand for?
BSD stands for The Hebrew/Aramaic phrase "BeSyata Dishamaya" , which means "with the help of G-d."
Do you speak other languages?
Yes!
We have staff members that speak Hebrew, Yiddish, French, and Spanish. If one of our staff members that speaks your language is not present during your visit, we have an interpreting service available for use that offers over 240 languages, including ASL!
